Heloise Cruse DEAR HELOISE: One night while I was working on my favorite hobby, knitting, I broke the end off one knitting needle. The 's stores were all closed and I didn't have any other needles of that size. So I stuck the broken needle (plastic, of course) in the pencil sharpener and sharpened away.

Believe it or not, it works great. I'm still using it, two years later! A KNITTER DEAR HELOISE: I read the letter in your column from the lady who saved on paper towels by cutting her roll in half. Well, I told my mother and she came up with a good idea, too, I think. Your see, my mother just cut the paper in half (not the cardboard roll), and hung it back on the regular towel rack. Now we can take just one little piece or two still attached, for a bigger piece.

JORI JERBEL AGE 16 DEAR HELOISE: I do not have personalized checks for my checking account. So I paste one of the small return address labels under the signature line on the check. This saves a lot of time. MRS. C.

E. Waldroop DEAR HELOISE: You had a recent article about a car seat for a dog. We have a chihuahua also and she goes with us everywhere. My husband found an old bicycle basket and bent the long metal straps backwards to fit over the back of the front seat, like a baby's car seat. We put a blanket in it and our dog, "Little, Bit," can sit or lie down, yet she is still high enough to see out.

The basket doesn't interfere with the driving either because it is small. She really catches the eyes of a lot of people when we are Park Mrs. Stachowski Couple Wed In St. Mary's Miss Maureen Constantine and Leon Stachowski were married in a Double ring ceremony on Saturday, Oct. 7, at noon in St.
